The Twelve Wild Swans

I've had this book on my Kobo for roughly five years now and never really got any further than the introduction (my bad)... but in meditation earlier today I kept hearing the words Twelve Wild Swans and when I turned my Kobo on to charge it up for later on - this was the first book on the home page.... so I guess it's time I went a bit further than page 30!

For anyone interested here is Amazon's blurb about the book.....

Starhawk and Hilary Valentine, renowned leaders in the Wicca movement, use the transformative fairy tale of The Twelve Wild Swans to teach an advanced class on magic. More significantly, this is an introduction to a mature level of Wicca called "Reclaiming"--a model of witchcraft that blends magic, personal growth and activism. The book begins with the first chapter of the fairytale, in which a foolish queen wishes to exchange her 12 sons for a daughter. An old woman "dressed all in black" overhears the queen and makes the wish come true--granting the queen a daughter but turning her sons into wild swans.
From here the coauthors launch into a back-and forth structure of telling the story and then stopping to show how it applies to a witch's initiation and transformation. For example, we all must leave the castle in order to heal our past. We all must spend some time wandering in the wilderness before finding our true home and we all must conquer some form of "wicked vows" before we can reach full maturity. These are wise leaders and strong guides--well worth following on this life-altering fairytale. --Tara West

So, as this morning I was drawn to pull cards to do a bit more journalling, I thought it might be a good idea (make me accountable) to blog my experiences as I work through this book.  It may be something that 'dies a death' or it may be a life changing experience - who knows, but I'm excited to start....

Til next time

It's been a while.....

Well, it's definitely been a while since I last blogged anything.  Life has had a habit of throwing me a few curve balls lately, however, you can't keep a good Witch down for too long - we have the tools and the faith to make it through...... so they say!

Anyway, today I decided to do a card draw, the first time in well over a few months, and I must say I was a wee bit nervous as I didn't know if I still had it in me!

So, as the Universe is wont to do, it gave me two cards to think about today,  The first:

Faery Wishing Well (manifestation, Expectations, Offerings)

This card is particularly apt for me right now, as I've been doing a lot of wishing but not much in the way of manifesting those wishes, and you know what that say, if wishes were horses beggars would ride,.... I digress.  We all have big dreams, we all have small dreams and goals we want to achieve, but unless we do something to change our reality, then they will only stay as dreams.  I love a tidy house, I love it when the rooms are cosy and comfortable and the smell of the essential oil I use in the cleaning products is in the air - the reality is, unless I get off my butt and do the housework then the house is a jumble of bits and pieces all over the place with nothing being put away. Dreaming is all well and good but you need to inject some effort into that dream to make it a reality so that the Universe can help bring in the good stuff that we are all able to tap into - so, today instead of just wishing for my house to be tidy - we put the effort in and everyone is more settled and happier.   After this blog I shall go and tidy my Meditation room :)

The second card I pulled was:

Storykeeper (Tell your story, Legacy, Write your Wisdom)

Well, what can I say about this card - but yep, I've been thinking about my blog and putting off writing because............. well, who wants to read my waffle.  But, who knows, one day I might say something that would help someone in their time of need.  However, this card for me is not only about my blog, but about my journal keeping in general, I used to keep a offline diary when I was younger and writing down bits and pieces that you want to ponder on - or just get out of your head was often a brilliant way to solve any issues you had,  I then progressed to keeping an online journal in the online schools and that was great for interacting with people so they could share and offer other points of view.  Recently, well I don't do any journalling and that is what this card is saying to me i've been stuck in my own head for quite a while now and I need to get the clutter out so that I have room to see the real issues and solve them.

So, that's todays blog entry, now to de-clutter, tidy and refresh my meditation room and ponder some more on making my dreams my reality.

Til next time!

Wild Wisdom of the Faery Oracle - Lucy Cavendish

I recently got an unexpected trip to my Spiritual home - Tintagel in Cornwall.  Whilst there, well it just had to be done we had a shuffle round the shops and I managed to pick up the Wild Wisdom of the Faery Oracle deck - which I had been after for a long time.

Those that know me, know that I have a bit of a 'thing' for Oracle decks and in my opinion you can never have too many!

The blurb on the back of the deck:

"You are invited to enter the realm of Faery!

Wild Wisdom of the Faery Oracle is your doorway into the magickal realm of the Faery.  Each gloriously illustrated card is brimming with secrets, messages, insights and guidance directly from the most helpful and wise of nature's guardians, delivering clear messages and direct and loving guidance.  Easy to read, yet deep, mystical and rich..........."

That's not all the blurb but I didn't want to bore you!

The artwork is by Selina Fenech and the deck is published by Blue Angel.  I should imagine that it's available via Amazon but I must admit I haven't checked.

The back of the deck is quite plain as Oracle cards go, but somehow that adds to the mystery

They are nice big cards, which feel solid to the touch, but not so big that you can't shuffle them easily.

The book, that comes with the cards is pretty standard in that you are given interpretations of the cards and suggested layouts, however, I did really like the introduction, it explained how to work with the Fae themselves, not just the cards.   How to communicate and heal with them and how to understand if they are with you.

The card I drew today is below:

Stunning isn't she, as you can see there are 'quick hints' underneath the image but the book goes on to give a detailed reading, Divinatory Meanings and (what is often lacking in Oracle guidebooks) Reversed meanings.

I'm an intuitive 'reader' which means that more often that not I will totally ignore the book as I prefer to get the messages for myself, but I can see myself referring back to this book just for the additional information in it.

This card is pretty apt for me right now as I've been trying to do too much and have stopped noticing the little joys, blessings and beauty that surround me.

So, would I recommend this deck - yes, I would, just for the stunning artwork, but I would hesitate to recommend it to someone just beginning to read the cards, as I think they may get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information  that they may assume that they have to learn 'verbatim'.

I'm off now to connect to the cards and do a few card pulls and see where the Fae want to take me.

Love n blessings to all

Which Witch is Which?

image courtesy of Lucy Cavendish - Oracle of Shadows & Light

One of the first things I get asked when people find out that I am a Witch is "are you a good witch or a bad witch?", often followed with a long stare to see if I have green skin, a long pointy nose and a big wart.

For that I think we have to thank L. Frank Baum and his wonderful book Wizard of Oz.  Who can forget Glinda (good Witch) and the brilliant Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West, anyway I digress.

I am neither a good Witch or bad Witch, I am neither a white Witch or a dark Witch, I am simply me, how do I know I'm a Witch?  Do I hex, curse and bind people?  Do I sell love potions and good luck spells.  Can I predict the lottery results?  Can I turn someone into a frog.  The answer to all of them is No, and being truthful if a Witch could predict the lottery results there would be an heck of a lot more millionaires out there!

There are a lot of labels out there for Witches, and I don't fit neatly into any of the boxes, but a lot of those boxes are ticked by me in the Path that I follow.

For anyone first starting out on this Path, I suggest they read Pagan Paths by Peter Jennings,  it gives a very good guide to not only the varied Path's but also the ethics and ethos behind them.

When I first started this journey, one of the things I found most frustrating is that there are more questions than answers and that if you ask a group of Witches, Pagans or Druids the same question you will get different answers from them all!  But, that is the joy of this ,,,, it is totally yours, you are not forced to follow one code, you can choose what works for you.

Most will follow "An it harm none" but you don't have to cast circles, call in the quarters or do a full-blown ritual every time you want to connect to the Divine, however, if that is what gets you excited and in the mind set ..... then go for it.... it's the joy, the passion that counts.

So, how did I start on this Path, well, a million lifetimes ago, I was in a very dark place, I needed something or someone to fill a void that was in my heart.  I was forced to stop and look deep within myself for an answer to that old familiar refrain ...."what do I want to do with my life" and I started to read, I was bed bound and bored with daytime TV, so I surfed the 'net and found the book mentioned above.  I ordered it from Amazon and started to read.  The book piqued my interest and (as mentioned earlier, I had questions that needed answering), so I researched and read some more and found that the more I read the more I had the feeling of 'coming home' of feeling complete and of feeling that I wasn't alone.

From reading I joined an online school Sacred Mists and started to learn in a structured way.  From there I took courses and became an Angelic Reiki Master Practitioner and now I follow my own very unique practise.

The answers are out there, but, remember, that the answer lies within you.

The best advise I can give you, is follow your heart, if it feels right then do it, don't allow anyone to tell you it can't be done that way.  Equally, if it feels 'off' or wrong, then click those ruby slippers and head for home as soon as you can.

Well, that's all for today, if you are still here reading then thank you and may your day be full of sunshine and laughter.
